RACHEL MICHAEL MICHAEL RACHEL
Rachel Michael Michael Rachel are husband and wife artists who are dedicated to a free collaborative process. Both artists work on every piece and both artists work with complete liberty. The practice is interested in shared self-discovery by creating art - ideas and expressions - that neither would have created on their own.
The project we are currently featuring is referred to as the postcard project. It wasn’t a project at first, but there was a process. All of the cards are made with Posca acrylic paint markers on watercolor paper, hand cut to approximately 3.75” x 5.5”. One of us - Rachel or Michael - starts each card with some kind of linework, imagery, shape, etc. The other then takes over and typically finishes the piece. Occasionally, they go back and forth a few times. Once we realized it had become a body of work we immediately set a goal to create 1,000 completely different postcards – we are currently nearing the 700 mark. Each painting uses the same color palette as the next with the intention of them to be curated in infinite ways.
The pieces below start with the most recent, and go all the way back to the beginning. We hope you enjoy!
